BSG’s SDG Clubs Creating Everyday Change
Charvi:
Good evening, everyone. We are students from Mothers’ Mount Global School, Vikas Puri, and we are here to share how our SDG Club, formed in collaboration with BSG, has shaped our journey of sustainability.
My name is Charvi Pughla, and I study in class 8.
Navya Bharati:
And I am Navya Bharati from class 9.
Charvi:
Our journey began with the Seeds of Hope and Action exhibition organized by BSG at our school. For the first time, we understood how our daily choices impact the environment – and how each one of us can be a part of the solution.
Inspired by this, our school launched an SDG Club in April 2025, with BSG as our knowledge partner.
Navya Bharati:
We started with a simple question: “What can we change, starting today?”
We noticed excessive paper use, high electricity consumption, and unnecessary waste during events. So, as SDG Ambassadors, we decided to take action with the support of our teachers.
Charvi:
We introduced small but consistent practices:
- Reusing decoration materials
- Moving assemblies outdoors to save electricity
- Switching from printed circulars to digital communication through the school app and WhatsApp.
Navya Bharati:
As habits were reinforced, students began segregating waste, composting, conserving water, and turning off lights and fans when not in use.
Through awareness campaigns, rallies, and peer discussions, these habits became part of our routine.
Charvi:
Within one year, we saw measurable change:
- 30 to 40 percent reduction in paper usage
- Noticeable decrease in event-waste
- Reduced electricity use during assemblies
- Reduced plastic use across the campus
Navya Bharati:
More importantly, mindsets and behaviour changed.
Students became more mindful and responsible about their actions, and these habits spread to their families as well.
Charvi:
One student shared, “I now think twice before wasting anything, and remind my family to do the same.”
Navya Bharati:
Another student shared, “I follow SDG practices even in my daily travel, and with my friends, discourage littering. Now no one throws garbage outside.”
Charvi:
Another student reflected, “Beyond academics, I’ve become more conscious of how I treat others, regardless of their background.”
Navya Bharati:
Moving forward, we aim to expand the SDG Club activities through zero-waste events, rainwater harvesting awareness, and community outreach.
Charvi:
Our goal is to create a fully sustainable school environment and adopt sustainable human behaviour as a way of life.
Navya Bharati:
So that we can continue to live as responsible global citizens for all times to come, and develop students as responsible global citizens for the realization of SDGs.
