BSG participated as a panelist at the Climate Summit hosted by Lovely Professional University (LPU), on the compelling theme: “Spirituality, Sustainability & Climate Action.” Representing BSG, Dr. Jaya Rao, Head – External Relations, Media, and Sustainability, shared insights rooted in Soka humanism that shapes BSG for SDG initiatives.

BSG’s message centred on a crucial yet often overlooked truth — real change begins from within. Dr. Rao introduced the Buddhist concepts of dependent origination and the oneness of self and environment, explaining how these principles foster awareness of the impact our actions have on the planet.

A central message from BSG was that spirituality can cultivate values like compassion, mindfulness, and responsibility, paving the way for sustainable human behaviour as a way of life. When individuals develop such inner awareness, they naturally begin to adopt more mindful consumption, make environmentally conscious choices, and inspire collective action. This transformation of consciousness can significantly accelerate efforts toward climate change mitigation by embedding sustainability into the fabric of daily living.

Quoting from the peace proposals of Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, Dr. Rao emphasized the need for an “inner revolution” to create lasting environmental change. She was joined on the panel by Ms. Karuna Singh, Regional Director Asia, EARTHDAY, and youth climate advocate Ms. Pankti Pandey, who added powerful perspectives grounded in collective responsibility and youth action.

Organized by the students of LPU, the summit reflected a growing determination among young people to not lead climate solutions with wisdom, responsibility, and a deep respect for the planet.
